About Me:

My formal art training includes a BFA in ceramic design from Massachusetts College of Art, in Boston. That was the actual start of a life long journey which, years later, brought me to West Virginia University and an MFA in ceramics.

From here in 1996, I traveled with a group of potters, to China, to study and tour, immersing ourselves in ceramic related Chinese art and culture. Here I worked at a replicated Ming Dynasty pottery, explored Song Dynasty kiln sites, watched masters demonstrating calligraphy, painting, and traditional methods of ancient pottery forming and decorating. It was here that I came to appreciate the Chinese tradition of painted pottery and the purity of Song pottery aesthetics.

From this and other traveling experiences to old and historic sites, I became fascinated with time-worn weathered surfaces and textures of old village walls, doorways and buildings.

I work from a studio adjacent to my farmhouse in rural Maryland, where a large garden and country setting provide interesting subjects to draw from. I hope you will enjoy viewing my work and that the cheerful colors, lines and forms will find their way into your home.studio
